Celebrating Habitat: the real, the virtual & the imaginary

A Documentary on the Retrospective Exhibition of Architect Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi (born in 1927 in Pune) in occasion on the sixty hears of his career. Architect, artist, teacher and institution builder, he is one of the pioneers who shaped modern architecture in India. He worked in Paris – and later in Ahmedabad – under master architect Le Corbusier and closely Louis Khan, when Kahn designed the campus of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Through his holistic and comprehensive approach to design, he considers architecture a social enterprise, as evidenced by his vast body of work . We follow his thoughts on how his design sensibilities were forged, why the interior must be relevant to the exterior, and why art, architecture and life need to co-exist.

Un documentario sulla mostra retrospettiva dell’architetto Balkrishna Doshi (nato a Pune nel 1927), in occasione dei sessant’anni di carriera. Ha lavorato a Parigi – e poi ad Ahmedabad – sotto la guida del maestro Le Corbusier e al fianco di Louis Khan, per il progetto del campus dell’Indian Institute of Management di Ahmedabad. Architetto, artista, insegnante e fondatore di istituzioni, è uno dei pionieri dell’architettura moderna in India. Come testimonia il suo vasto corpus di opere, attraverso il suo approccio olistico e globale al progetto, considera l’architettura un’impresa sociale.
