Art House

Narrated by author and critic Alastair Gordon, Art House, explores the handmade homes created – between the late 1800s and the mid-20th century – and lived in by eleven distinguished America artists and designers (in order of apparition: Russel Wright, George Nakashima, Raoul Hague, Byrdcliffe, Henry Champaman Mercer, Eliphante – Michael Hahn and Leda Livant -, Paolo Soleri, Costantino Nivola, Wharton Esherick, Henry Varnum Poor, Frederich Church). The beauty of the documentary, the unique aesthetic of the houses, the important documentary functions show the energy behind the artists creation, the inter-connection of environment and the connections between art and architectural context that lives in these homes. The documentary incorporates still photography as well as filmed interviews with experts at the various locations which help speak for the value of these places, even they face destruction from both development and neglect.
